    HI Team,
I am 28years old.I have hypothyroid from last 6 years and it is still high as 9.i have irregular periods from last 2 years but this time the gap was of 5 months.I visited a Gynae and she suggested me certain tests.I tests they found out the PCOS,High insulin with no sugar and hypo thyroid.I am overweight iand my weight is almost 105 kgs.I want o conceive after 6 years of marriage and it is difficult because of irregular period. Gynae has given me Metformin Hydrochloride Sustained Release tablets 1000mg and suggested me to have it once in a day in between me meal.
She advised me to loose weight.I am working with a BPO in Night shifts but i have left it now because she said you don't live a healthy lifestyle.
i have stated loosing weight as i diet and excercise everday.

How long will PCOS take to get cured?
Will this tablet help me to get my periods on regular inerval as it is just 15 days i have statred with the medication and i'm stared with my periods but the release is really minimal as compare to normal periods-from last two days i'm just spotted rather than a good flow?
How long it will take to get pregnant?
Will this tablet cure my irregular periods,PCOS and higher nsulin and how?

Please reply as i'm in depression since last 15 days.

Hello and thanks for posting to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you are struggling right now and hope that you are finding the support that you need.

PCOS and hyporthyroid are not an uncommon combination. The thyroid gland and ovaries are both part of the endocrine system. If one part of the endocrine system is not functioning right that has an effect on the rest of the endocrine system. I found one study on rats that showed the thyroid gland has a direct effect on the hormone receptors on the ovaries. As naturopathic doctors we believe in looking at the body as a whole in trying to understand the cause of disease.

The Insulite PCOS System is designed to help address the underlying cause of PCOS, insulin resistance. We cannot say for sure that PCOS is a curable disease. Conventional medicine asserts that PCOS is incurable. However, we can say that insulin resistance is a reversible condition, and insulin resistance is one of the underlying causes of PCOS. Therefore, by removing this underlying cause of PCOS we would expect your experience of the PCOS to greatly improve.

The supplements can help to regulate your periods and cycles and help support ovulation. How long this will take is different for each woman. I have had women report that they started their periods fairly quickly in a few weeks and others report longer, 3 months or more. It depends on many factors including severity of hormone imbalance, use of medications, compliance to the overall program.

While we cannot guarantee that you will conceive on our program, we know that theoretically reducing insulin and testosterone will increase your chances of conceiving, barring any other factors contributing to the infertility.

I think that it was in your best interest to leave the night shift. These jobs change the hormonal signals in the body to ones that are not natural. We are meant to sleep at night. So, the fact that you have made this change will be very supportive to your goals.

It sounds like you are taking the appropriate steps, making lifestyle changes that will support your body.

Here is some additional information on how the Insulite PCOS System helps.

Insulin resistance vastly reduces the insulin sensitivity of cells, which impairs the processing of glucose through the cell wall for conversion to energy. As a result, glucose remains in the blood stream, causing elevated levels of blood sugar, some of which is sent to the liver. Once there, the sugar may be converted into fat and stored via the blood stream throughout the body. This process can lead to weight gain and obesity, key factors in creating PCOS.

Sometimes insulin resistance results in high blood sugar, sometimes in low blood sugar, and sometimes there is no change whatsoever in blood sugar levels. I think this probably depends on how long the person has been insulin resistant, among other things. Like many things, developing insulin resistance was probably a combination of environmental and genetic factors.

The insulin resistance in turn leads to hormonal imbalances such as increased testosterone and other androgens (masculinizing hormones).

Elevated insulin and insulin resistance also contribute to the formation of cysts in the ovaries in part due to the hormonal imbalances and also because the ovaries are highly sensitive to the influence of insulin. In women with PCOS, the ovaries are over-sensitized to insulin's effects. Finally, the weight gain often (but not always) associated with PCOS is intricately related to insulin resistance. Losing weight helps to improve insulin sensitivity, and vice versa: becoming more sensitive to your insulin helps you to lose weight.

The Insulite PCOS System helps to improve insulin sensitivity and promote healthy weight loss with its combination of nutrients and herbs as well as diet and exercise guidelines. The supplements are also designed to correct the hormone imbalance of PCOS.

Keep up with the exercise and the nutrition changes you are making. These are the most important changes you can make as they support your body in the short term but also help reduce future risks that are associated with PCOS.

I hope that this answers your questions. Please feel free to write in again. If there is anything we can do to help support you, let us know.

1.If i'll loose my weight to 55 kgs and live in healthy lifestyle with NO night shifts and eat only healthy food..How long will it take to conceive?

2.I am addicted to sugar and the only problem in maintaning my diet is sugar...My day is just not complete without it.Is it Ok to take sugarfree tablets instead sugar----because i heard, sugarfree tablets contains aspartame which is really bad and effects badly if u want to conceive?

    Hello Charu,

I wish I could say how long it will take for you to conceive once your weight is reduced. We don't know that. I know it is frustrating but with weight loss, healthier eating, exercise and addressing the underlying problem your body will be much more likely to conceive and maintain a healthy pregnancy. We are trying to optimize your changes for fertility.

Some women with PCOS do crave sugar and find it difficult to reduce. It is very important to address this as the more sugars, refined or processed foods that a woman with PCOS eats, the more it raises insulin levels and can contribute to the hormonal imbalance and symptoms.

The PCOS System helps with this aspect and along with the nutrition and exercise changes, helps you to learn better ways to eat and reduce your addiction to carbohydrates.

Artificial ssweeteners are not recommended. For one there is a safety issue and just as importantly there is research to support that these artificial sweeteners also stimulate insulin secretion. These artifcial sweeteners can also lead to an icrease in appetite. Eagan J, Margolskee R. Taste Cells of the Gut and Gastrointestinal Chemosensation. Mol Interv. 2008;8(2) 78-81.

Some very new information was recently presented at the ENDO 2009, the 91st annual meeting of The Endocrine Society. "A study analyzed data, from participants in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA), to determine whether weight status and health risk measurements differed among artificial sweetener users and non-artificial sweetener users. The primary sweetener consumed was aspartame followed by saccharine and sucralose. Although the group who used sweeteners was younger and heavier, they did not consume any more calories than those who did not use sweeteners yet they were twice as likely to develop diabetes."
ENDO 2009: The Annual Meeting of the Endocrine Society: Abstract P2-478. Presented June 11, 2009.

Also, studies also coorelate the use of artifcial sweeteners with a two fold increase in diabetes.

So, as you can see, there is more to this that the other health risks that have been brought up over time, such as links to headache, migraine, seizure and cancer.

At Insulite, we have been advocating these points for many years even though research is more and more available to support what we have seen. I am happy to see it being brought forth to the public as many doctors recommend these products to patients who are diabetic and may only be worsening the disease.

What we also advocate is eating real foods and when you do want something sweet to have some fruit or occasionally (if needed) a piece f dried fruit. Although we will not recommend dried fruit often, it is better than a piece of chocolate cake. We help you learn a better way to support your overall health and healthy lifestyle.

I was excited to see your question as it gave me the opportunity to share this information that I feel is so very important.

    I hope that this helps.

    Hello Charu,

It is nice to hear from you. I am sorry it is because you are having some irregular bleeding.

Have you discussed this with your doctor? This can happen and you might see it resolve and start a more normal cycle. However, this can take some time.

As you lose weight, we can see cycles regulate as well. Have you started to make nutrition changes, lowering carbohydrates, etc.

I would recommend that you contact your doctor as they want to do a further evaluation of your situation.

Sorry that this was not more helpful but there is so much variability with PCOS and how women respond to different treatments.

Please let me know how you are doing.
