A New Benefit of Red Wine?

October 16th, 2009

Numerous studies in the past have shown that a single glass of red wine a day may help to cut the risk of heart disease, which is a classic symptom of PCOS. Now there’s evidence that moderate intake of red wine may also protect the liver from the most common form of disease in the U.S. of that vital organ.

Researchers who studied nearly 12,000 adults found that those who drank a daily glass of wine had a 50% lower risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) than their alcohol-free counterparts.

NAFLD is more commonly a major risk for heavy drinkers because it can lead to often-fatal cirrhosis of the liver.

Alcohol needs to be handled very carefully. The same study results did not hold true for beer or liquor … and breast cancer risk rises with alcohol intake. Strict moderation should always be your motto if you drink.
